The first thirteen articles in my Kings and Queens of England series have been moved to pages on this site from their old home at Triond. The biographies cover the reigns of the kings of the Saxon and Danish houses from August 924 to January 1066.

A few months ago my article Seven Useful Plugins for Your WordPress Blog described the plugins I had found useful for this website. Since then I have been exploring what is possible with the WordPress software and finding ways to squeeze more functionality from it.

For each of the ideas I came up with I found numerous solutions at the wordpress.org plugin site. The seven plugins described in the following article are all used on this website, but I still feel my blog is only just beginning to reach its potential. With WordPress plugins we are just a few clicks away from some very useful features.

There are many blogging sites scattered around the internet, including blogger.com and wordpress.com, which are very useful if all you want to do with them is blog. But, if you want to extend these capabilities, a small investment in a hosting package and a free download from wordpress.org may be the answer.

Once installed, you will be able to style your site with the use of themes and create additional static pages. There are also hundreds of plugins available that will extend the functionality of your site further. The seven described in the article below are all used on this website, but there are many others available that do the same, or similar, things. Achieving the right balance is just a matter of experimenting.

New Website Feature: Article Indexes

The menu bar for this website now includes an item for Article Indexes. Many of my articles form part of a series, and article indexes are a way of grouping these pieces together.

So far I have created indexes for my Elements of the Periodic Table and Kings and Queens of England series, but there will be more to follow. As I write new articles I will add them to the series index. I hope this new feature will provide an easy way for my readers to access all the information on a particular topic.

Hello and welcome to my little corner of the world wide web. I’m Gary Wallace, a freelance writer based in the United Kingdom. My interests are many and varied, and this is reflected in my choice of writing subjects, but I have a passion for history so you will see a bias towards historical biographies and events.

This website has been designed to keep you up to date with my published articles and will be updated as I publish more. The core of the site, my blog, can be found on the home page. The blog will be used to announce the publication of any new articles or any changes to this site. Over the next few days I will also introduce you some of my old articles.

From the sidebars to the left and right you can navigate to lists of recent entries and comments, archives by category and date, links to some of my other online profiles, random links to my published articles and images and feeds for entries and comments. The feed links are also available at the top of each page, as is a search box.

In addition to the blog other pages can be accessed from the menu at the top of each page with information that I hope you will find useful. These include a full list of my published work, a list of historic events for each day of the year, with links to relevant articles, and a contact page.
