I have been publishing articles at Triond since October 2008 across a selection of their websites. But recent events have prompted me to reassess my publishing strategy.

When I first considered publishing articles online I searched the internet for suitable locations for my work. There were many possibilities, some good, some not so good, but Triond stood out as the best fit for my requirements.

From October 2008 until just recently I posted articles on a variety of subjects, mainly history and science, to Triond sites. The process was a steep learning curve and some of the articles received very few views, but several of them became quite popular. The experience as a whole was very enjoyable and I started to learn more about the differences between writing for online and printed media.

But things can change rapidly in the online world. Several recent changes and trends have made me realise that Triond is no longer the best platform for my writing. Chief among these is Triond’s own attitude to the content of its sites.

While many of the writers on Triond’s sites are interested in providing informative, high quality articles, for Triond the purpose of the content is to create a page for adverts to appear on. Quality is not high on its agenda and has been decreasing at an alarming rate, with many badly written pieces of writing slipping through the submission process.

Even more concerning are the many articles that have been submitted and accepted by Triond that are exact copies of pieces that appear elsewhere on the internet. In a recent occurrence the articles were copied from Triond’s own sites. Although these pages were removed shortly after staff members were notified, a robust editorial system should have prevented them being published in the first place.

Unfortunately, I cannot see these problems being solved in the near future. If no action is taken (and requests for information about what is being done to improve matters seem to have fallen on deaf ears) then Triond’s reputation will be damaged further, and the reputations of its users along with it.

Now, I don’t profess to be the greatest writer in the world, and I make mistakes just like anybody else, but I am reluctant to risk a damaged reputation through the actions of another. This being the case, I feel my only option is to cease publishing at Triond and to completely disassociate myself with the company.

To that end, I have moved most of my articles from Triond to this site. Any future articles will either be published here or at Blogger (including a chart music project starting next week). I am excited about the projects I have lined up for the future and hope you will enjoy them with me.
