There are many blogging sites scattered around the internet, including blogger.com and wordpress.com, which are very useful if all you want to do with them is blog. But, if you want to extend these capabilities, a small investment in a hosting package and a free download from wordpress.org may be the answer.

Once installed, you will be able to style your site with the use of themes and create additional static pages. There are also hundreds of plugins available that will extend the functionality of your site further. The seven described in the article below are all used on this website, but there are many others available that do the same, or similar, things. Achieving the right balance is just a matter of experimenting.

You can read the full article at WebUpon.com by following the link below.

The internet contains many millions of web pages and each of these pages requires interesting and informative content. Although much of this content is written by the website owners, there are many sites that seek contributions from freelance writers, and are willing to pay for them.

One such site is Triond. The articles submitted to Triond, once reviewed by the editing team, are published on a group of partner websites including Bookstove, Picable, Purpleslinky, Quazen, Scienceray, Socyberty, Trifter, Webupon and Writinghood. Having this range of sites available means that articles on similar subjects can be published together. For example, you will find science articles at Scienceray and travel articles at Trifter.

Triond accepts articles on a wide variety of subjects including health, cars, pets, history, society, books, science, computers and many others. If you can think of a subject to write about it will find a home somewhere in their network. Triond also publishes creative writing, so poetry, short stories and chapters from novels are all welcomed. Pictures, audio and video also have their own sites. All submissions must be in the English language and must not have been published before.

Revenue is generated from advertisements displayed alongside the articles. This revenue is shared between the writer and Triond with each receiving half. Once you have published five articles you will have the opportunity of integrating your Triond account with Google Adsense. Earnings are paid monthly as long as you have earned more than $50 if paid by cheque or $0.50 if paid via Paypal. If you don’t reach these thresholds then your earnings roll over to the following month.

If being paid for your writing appeals to you and you would like to join Triond, please follow my referral link and sign up. I will be paid a referral fee by Triond but this does not affect your earnings. If you would rather not use the referral link you can join through the Triond homepage.

This applies to the story of Edward the Confessor more than most. Far from being the saintly old man seen in the Bayeux tapestry, Edward was a typical 11th century king who took the throne after a long period of civil war and foreign rule.

In the third article of my Kings and Queens of England series I attempt to find the real Edward and discover why the end of his reign led to a struggle for control of the country. As usual, the key dates in Edward’s story can be found in the On This Day section.

You can read the full biography of Edward the Confessor at Quazen.com by following the link below.

His reputation is as a saintly king, a peaceful but ineffectual ruler whose childlessness left the kingdom in chaos after his death. But the full story of the penultimate Saxon king is one of warfare, exile, power struggles and shrewd diplomacy.
