21 February 1910: Birth of Douglas Bader, British Pilot

Douglas Bader was a British pilot who saw action in the Second World War despite having lost both his legs in an accident in 1931.

Douglas Robert Steuart Bader was born in St John’s Wood, London on this day 100 years ago. He joined the RAF in 1928 and was commissioned in 1930.
