Biography of J. R. R. Tolkien

J. R. R. Tolkien is remembered as the author of fantasy novels such as "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings". But before he turned to literature Tolkien served in the army during the First World War and had a distinguished academic career.

This biography, from December last year, covers Tolkien’s family and professional life from 1892 to 1973. As well as the two major novels it discusses his other academic and fiction work and his ideas about the relationship between language and literature.

J. R. R. Tolkien (1892-1973) was an English writer and academic with a love of languages. His interest in myths and legends brought us "The Hobbit", "Lord of the Rings" and the many races of Middle-earth. These stories made him the father of the fantasy genre.
